RESIDENT Services Team
Western Community Housing, Inc (WCH) oversees resident services at many of our family and senior affordable housing communities across California. WCH provides direct services to several of our family and senior communities. The communities we don’t provide direct services to, WCH works with select third-party service providers to provide the resident services. WCH continues to ensure that the service requirements are being fulfilled in a timely manner.
The Resident Services Department’s goal is to provide access to local resources in the community, develop programs that support wellness for the residents, coordinate fun, social, and inclusive events, and activities onsite. Some examples of the types of workshops include financial literacy, technology assistance, transit literacy, onsite flu, and vaccine clinics, nutrition, and exercise classes that promote a healthy and balanced lifestyle, community safety awareness with local law enforcement, and basic household training with onsite maintenance employees, such as how to unclog a toilet and operate a fire extinguisher, to name a few. Some examples of social and inclusive activities include, but are not limited to, birthdays of the month, bingo, arts-n-crafts hour, inclusive holiday parties, no bake cooking classes, movie days, dancing, karaoke, Jeopardy, trivia, board games and puzzle hour, and much more. These various types of workshops, activities, and events help to encourage and promote independence, while fostering a positive social community within the property in which they live in.
WCH continually reviews and modifies the services provided, thus ensuring that our time and energy are focused on what is most valuable for each individual community. The benefits of social services have proven to reach beyond the residents and extend into the surrounding community at large by promoting social responsibility and nurturing an onsite support system, while decreasing resident turnover.
21 of the affordable housing communities also provide housing to the special needs population including veterans, unhoused people, and families. WCH has partnered with special needs providers who provide case management, life skills training and educational programs to the residents.
Building strong partnerships between our team members and the residents is crucial to the overall success of our company. WCH works with many local partners to provide free engaging, informative, and valuable programs for our residents. Bridging these types of connections with the surrounding community is significant in aiming to provide access to the basic necessities for our residents.
Giving Back
Once a year Western Community Housing, Inc (WCH) offers 2 different programs specifically designed for students who reside at our family properties where direct services are provided by WCH staff. With these programs we hope to relieve some of the financial burdens associated with going back to school. Each year aims to prove its success in the number of participants we receive.
- School Supply Giveaway
At our family communities, we hand out an assortment of necessary school supplies to students aged 5-17 years old. - Textbook Assistance Program
We offer textbook assistance to college students at our family properties. Students can apply for $100 per class for up to 5 classes.
If you would like to donate to these programs please contact Lauren, the Director of Resident Services, at 714-597-8306 or email Lauren@wchousing.org .
